Here's how:
++++++++
What will I get in the mail to show that I am a NSSLHA member?
The very first correspondence that you will receive in the mail is your NSSLHA membership card. When you receive your membership card please read the carrier letter that accompanies the card as it will contain important information about your degree information, conversion status (if applicable), your special interest division membership, and journal selections.
If you identify any errors in your degree information you may update them online through the ASHA Online dues renewal.
If you simply want to change your journal selections or Special Interest Division membership contact the national office immediately by e-mail or call the Action Center at 800-498-2071.
How do I get my NSSLHA membership number?
Your NSSLHA membership number will arrive on your membership card 4-6 weeks after your membership is processed.
Should you need to access your number in a hurry simple e-mail the national office at nsslha@asha.org or call the Action Center at 800-498-2071 to get your number.
How do I get the journals online?
You must register for member-only access on the ASHA Web site. In order to register you must have your NSSLHA account number (included on the NSSLHA membership card and most correspondence from NSSLHA) and last name to begin the registration process.
What if I'm already registered but I can't access my account?
If you encounter a problem accessing the members only resources on the ASHA Web site use the form for technical issues available at to receive assistance. This will give the ASHA webmaster basic information about your computer that will help troubleshoot difficulties. Please visit the Frequently Asked Questions page before contacting the webmaster to see if your issue has been addressed.
How do I register for the Special Interest Division resources?
If you applied for membership in a Special Interest Division at the time that you applied for NSSLHA membership you are automatically registered for the Division resources (newsletters, discounts for short courses, and networking events) except for the e-mail list.
To register for the Division e-mail list send a message to: asha-INSERT DIVISION NUMBER-request@lists.asha.org. (Example: asha-div14-request@lists.asha.org or asha-div3-requests@lists.asha.org). More information about the individual e-mail lists is available on the Divisions' Web pages.
In the subject line, write "subscribe full name ASHA account number" (if you have that available). Leave the body of the message blank. (Examples: Subscribe John Smith 005556 or Subscribe John Smith)
After your membership status has been confirmed, you will receive a welcome message that will include further information about the list. If you have any technical difficulties subscribing, posting messages, or receiving them, please send an e-mail to ListAdmin@asha.org.
When will my journal subscriptions start?
The receipt of your journal will depend on the journal and when your membership was processed.
The mailing labels for journals are prepared as much as 4 weeks in advance of the mailing date of the journal. If your membership was processed after the mailing labels are printed then your subscription will not start until the next issue of that journal is published. View the schedule of the journal mailing dates to determine when your journal subscriptions will mail.
For example, you apply for NSSLHA membership August 1 and you select the American Journal of Speech Language Pathology (AJSLP). The AJSLP publishes in August, November, February, and May. The mailing labels were printed in late June-early July. You would not receive the August issue of AJSLP but you will receive the November issue.
What if I am not getting my subscriptions?
If you're not getting your subscriptions it's usually because of two reasons—we have a hold on your account because of an incorrect address or your journal subscription just hasn't mailed.
These problems are easy to resolve. Read below for the instructions to update your address with the national office OR visit the Publications section of the NSSLHA Web site to view a schedule of the journal mailing dates.
I don't like my journal choice. How do I change it?
It's easy to change your journal selection. E-mail the national office at nsslha@asha.org with your new journal selection or call the Action Center at 800-498-2071 to change your subscription.
What do I do if I need to change my name or address?
It is very important that you update your mailing address with the national office in the event that you move or if your name changes as a result of marriage.
You can change your name or address by sending an e-mail the national office at nsslha@asha.org. Type "change name" or "Change address" in the subject line of the message. In the body of the message include:
- Your name and NSSLHA account number
- Your specific request—"Please change my name" and state your name as you would like it to appear or "Please change my address" and write the address as it should appear.
Once we update your address or name we will automatically issue you a new NSSLHA membership card at no charge. Your information also updates in the ASHA database.
It will take 4-6 weeks for the new name and address to catch up with your subscriptions. Please be mindful that depending on when you update your information with the national office, you may continue to receive mail at your previous address or under your previous name.

You are automatically subscribed to receive these announcements as long as you provided an e-mail address at the time that you applied for membership.

How can NSSLHA membership help me with my research?
NSSLHA members have access to HighWire, a search engine specifically developed for Communication Sciences Disorders professionals.
From the Members page of the NSSLHA Web site, select "ASHA Journals Online" to check out the following features:
- E-mail alerts. Sign up to receive "eTOCs"-and receive e-mail alerts with a full table of contents (TOC) each time a new TOC is posted online for any or all of the journals, or simply a message saying the content is posted.
- CiteTrack. Another type of e-mail alert is "CiteTrack," which alerts you by e-mail whenever new content is published that matches your specific selected parameters. You determine which HighWire journals should be covered, and alerts are sent whenever new content matches criteria based on your selected topics (keywords/subjects of interest), authors (individuals whose work you are following) and articles (when a paper of interest is referenced by another paper or letter).
- E-mail a friend. Did you find an article that addressed a topic that you recently discussed with a colleague? You can e-mail the article to your colleague directly from the new host site.
- Quick searches and advanced searches. ASHA's new online host offers a "quick search" as well as an advanced search. You can limit your search to one ASHA journal, all four journals, or, by starting on the HighWire home page, all journals on HighWire and PubMed.
- Improved "Googling." Google has permission to index the ASHA journals from the HighWire site. The result will be that more of the literature from our discipline will show up on Google searches.
- Personal folders. Although you can link directly to the journals through ASHA's Web site, if you wish to personalize your HighWire site, you can register and begin setting up "My Favorite Journals" and "My Sitebar" for easy access from your desktop.
I received the ASHA journal that I requested when I joined but how do I order an additional journal?
NSSLHA members can order additional journals at any time by simply contacting ASHA Product Sales at 888-498-6699 and ordering. Additional journals will be billed at the ASHA member price depending on the publication.
